METEOROS No. 0708/2013

Our cover picture ...

One of the explanations of the name of the Hebridean island of Skye is "misty isle". On the morning of 19 July 2013, dense sea fog lay over Loch Scavaig in the south west of the island. The sunlight produced a fog bow that was particularly well visible from a somewhat higher position. Only when visibility improved did the boat trip from Elgol to Loch Coruisk start. The panorama of the Cuillin Hills emerged almost mystically from "nowhere". Incidentally, a week of high summer followed on Skye without fog, clouds, wind or rain.
