METEOROS No. 06/2016

Our cover picture ...

… shows a detailed image of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko with a resolution of 62cm/pixel. The image was taken on 15 June 2016 at 21:47:47 UTC with the Narrow Angle Camera aboard Rosetta. Structures resembling sand dunes with embedded larger boulders of rock and ice are clearly visible on the surface of the comet. The ‘sand’ that the comet lost during its approach and that did not fall back onto the comet is now distributed along the comet’s orbit as a new filament of meteoroids. © ESA/Rosetta/MPS for OSIRIS Team MPS/UPD/LAM/IAA/SSO/INTA/UPM/DASP/IDA
