… shows mirages over the Alps. On 20 December 2020, during a pronounced inversion, dense high fog lay over the Alpine foothills, with only a few mountains of the Mühlviertel rising above it. From the Bärenstein, located in the Austrian part of the Bohemian Forest, impressive mirages of the Berchtesgaden and Salzburg Limestone Alps could be seen (distance about 150 to 160 km). Four prominent peaks of the Loferer Steinberge were distorted beyond recognition: Großes Ochsenhorn, Reifhorn, Mittelhorn and Großes Rothorn (from left to right). More pictures from this day at
