METEOROS No. 06/2022

Our cover picture ...

…shows a τ Herculid on 31 May 2022 at 00:45 CEST. For the calculated maximum of the τ Herculids in the night of 30/31 May 2022, several weather models
predicted the longest cloud free observing time in Germany for that morning in Brandenburg, near the Polish border. So we spontaneously drove north, despite the brighter midnight twilight there.
For the previously favored observing sites in southern Germany, quickly approaching cloud fields were forecast for the morning hours.
André Knöfel gave us the tip to set up near the DWD measuring field in Falkenberg. There is a clear view to the south and good observing conditions there. During the observation
a good number of tau Herculids could be recorded in the short dark period.
