Since the founding of the AKM in 1978, meteor observers had the "AKM Communications (MM)" and halo observers published their results starting in 1979 in "HALO". In 1990, the AKM became an independent association, and the idea arose to merge the two publications. As a transition, HALO 77/78/79 and MM 149/151/153 were published as joint issues.
With a new logo, the two newsletters were merged into MM starting with issue 1/1994.
Since 1998, the AKM has also supervised the Meteor Section of the Association of Friends of Astronomy e.V. and their publication "Shooting Star" became METEOROS with the MM from 1998.
