Halo displays

Explanation

A halo phenomenon is when at least five types of halos are visible simultaneously. Such phenomena can be very spectacular, attracting the attention of a large part of the population. Sometimes it looks as if the whole sky is full of "rainbows." In past times, such phenomena were interpreted as a divine sign. But even today, few people realize that it is a halo phenomenon. Halo phenomena are very rare. With a bit of luck, you can observe 3-4 phenomena a year, but usually no more than 5 to 8 types of halos are visible simultaneously. Large phenomena with more than 10 types of halos can be seen by an experienced observer in our regions only every few years. Considering that extensive phenomena often do not last longer than an hour, it becomes clear how unique such observations are. In Antarctica, extensive halo phenomena are observed every year. The air there is very clear, so the halos are hardly diminished. The low temperatures also favor the formation of ice fog, which can also produce very impressive appearances. Perhaps you have already observed or even photographed a halo phenomenon. We are very interested in such observations. You can contact Wolfgang Hinz.
