Description

Light Path
EE58 - Hastings Antisolar Arc
Type of Crystal:
  • Columnar crystals
Orientation:
  • doubly oriented
Light Path:
  • Refraction at 2 lateral surfaces and reflection at base
Occurrence:
  • very rare
Hastings anthelic arc closely resembles the appearance of Wegener's anthelic arc. While the apex of Wegener's anthelic arc is on the upper tangent arc, the apex of Hastings' anthelic arc is on the upper concave Parry arc. This halo type has always been observed together with Wegener's anthelic arc. Only the separation of the two arcs in the solar area allows a clear identification of the halo type. Due to the rarity of the phenomenon, there are hardly any documented records of this halo type in Europe. Hastings' anthelic arc was able to be documented during the halo phenomenon of Neklid.
