The two of us had just finished our breakfast. My colleague had just submitted his flight weather report, when I looked out the window and made these observations. Unfortunately, there was far too little time to photograph this phenomenon with a tripod and other camera settings. Until then, I didn't really know what I had captured.

The Sonnblick Observatory is the oldest and highest located observatory in Central Europe. Founded in 1886 by the gold mine owner Ignaz Rojacher, it has since provided nearly uninterrupted weather data on the Hohe Sonnblick near Kolm Saigurn at 3106m. The Hohe Sonnblick is located in the core zone of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The high mountain observatory is jointly operated by the ZAMG (Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics) and the Sonnblick Association.
